Good, but problems with Jeep Wrangler, April 26, 2009 By jlloyd50 (Wyoming) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Allen Deluxe 4-Bike Hitch Mount Rack for Vehicles with Rear Mounted Spare Tire (2-Inch Receiver) (Sports) I bought this for my 2009 Jeep Wrangler and with the standard size spare tire on the trunk can only be opened about 6 inches because the thing doesn't drop low enough, but aside from that the thing's great, very sturdy and seems like it will hold up all right.

It leaves plenty of room for the factory spare and could probably accommodate up to a 35" tire easily. The construction is great! Feels very rigid without any noticeable play or rattle between components. Good cushioning for the bike where it makes contact with the bike. You may want to buy some self stick cushioned pads to put on the vertical support to keep it from rubbing against your bikes frame, but that was only a $2 quick fix. The locking mechanisms for the actual rack and the break-away to allow lift-gate access seem solid and are easy to operate. On my Jeep the tailgate swings open rather than a hatch-back and the rack only allows room to swing it open enough to grab a backpack. On a hatchback style rear door full access shouldn't be a problem. The only change I would have made to the rack is to have made it possible to lower the rack to full horizontal for tailgate access on my Jeep.

Nothing..I mean nothing would work with the external spare tire. I went to a local "Rack Warehouse" and tried EVERY rack he had and none of them fit without hitting the tire. We spent an hour switching out units...nothing. He said "I usually have some Allen racks in stock, but I'm out right now". I went home and started sufing Amazon. They always come through. The description even said "for vehicles with rear mounted spare tires". I ordered it up, low and behold it fits perfect. I have about 2 inches of clearance between the tire and rack. All steel construction. Feels solid. Daddy likes.
